Justice is a right relation to God, actively overflowing to self, neighbour and creation: a foretaste of the flourishing and peace of God\’s shalom

Day 1

Uncovering Human Trafficking in Cambodia

Seminar by Brian McConaghy (Meeting Room 1-3, 2nd Floor)
Thousands of people in Cambodia are exploited every year, sold into forced labour or sexual slavery. As the scope of exploitation in Cambodia moves further beyond its borders, the need for collaboration to help bring survivors home is increasing. Discover how even in the midst of overwhelming darkness, God can use us to renew hope and restore dignity.

Day 2

Justice – Driven by Relationship

General Session by Brian McConaghy & Evelyne Reisacher (Hall A)
We serve a God who is acquainted with grief and brings redemption into a broken world. In praying for, meeting, and walking alongside young women who have been sold into destruction, Brian also encountered hope that can only be found in Christ. Listen to stories of God\’s justice in the most precious of relationships with survivors of exploitation.

Sharing Jesus is an Act of Justice

Youth Rally by Brian McConaghy & Will Graham with worship by Jon Neufeld (Hall A)
The world of exploitation is profoundly dark, and yet even there joy can be found. Despite the fact that survivors have endured tremendous abuse and suffering, they frequently express a measure of joy in their life. For they have met Christ and have discovered they are profoundly valuable. They are \”to die for.\” In Christ, we are loved, and have citizenship in a home prepared for us.

\”There is forgiveness after bitterness, there is hope where there was none. Unconditional love is indeed a powerful tool and safety is to be found in the shadow of a God who would die for the helpless.\”

– Brian McConaghy

Speakers

Brian McConaghy, Founding Director

Brian McConaghy is the only member of the RCMP to have smuggled 9 tonnes of medical supplies across international borders to save lives. His life has been an unlikely journey from RCMP Forensic Specialist to acclaimed human trafficking expert, with a life-long commitment to see hope and justice for victims in Cambodia. His story has inspired people around the globe.

As a young Forensic Specialist with the RCMP, Brian sought relief from crime and death on a vacation to South East Asia – only to end up in the middle of a war zone on the Thai-Cambodian border. No previous exposure to violence could prepare him for the devastation and trauma the Killing Fields had left behind.

Completely overwhelmed, he returned to Canada determined to do something – despite a lack of relevant skills. He planned to collect two suitcases of medical supplies and smuggle them into Cambodia, but the response was overwhelming and Brian found himself with a full shipping container. That spark resulted in the beginning of Ratanak International more than 25 years ago.

As Ratanak grew, Brian continued his work with the RCMP. Eventually his work on the file of serial killer Willy Pickton introduced him to the dark world of prostitution. As he worked this file, he also encountered an investigation unlike any other: crimes of a Canadian pedophile that would take Brian into the shattering world of child sex slavery in Cambodia. It took every ounce of faith and courage to reach into this unbearable darkness to try and help.

Brian’s dedication to the people of Cambodia is a reflection of the person of Jesus Christ at work in his life. The challenges in Cambodia have been immense from the start and the horrifying realities of human trafficking are overwhelming – but hope is tangible as devastated lives are restored, shamed ones know dignity, and redemption is found.
