Human trafficking. It’s a daunting, scary, issue that can seem easier to turn away from than to confront.
In Canada, we are privileged to have authorities in government and police who take great measures to protect our communities. In Cambodia, communities have the same desire to protect the families in their midst, but help isn’t always on their side.
A hero is someone who empowers and protects others. When you raise money to send-a-hero to a village in Cambodia, you are giving that village the education, tools, and training it needs to know how to protect themselves from traffickers.
By sending a hero, your community can stand up for another community in need.
How does it work?
Ratanak International works to identify communities in Cambodia that are vulnerable to being targeted by traffickers, whether that is because of low literacy levels or high levels of poverty. Our Cambodian staff go to these villages and teach people how to identify traffickers and their lies, how to keep their communities safe, and how to respond if they see a situation of human trafficking.
By raising money, you can help send one of these staff members – a Hero – into a community to help keep more people safe.
Who can participate?
We encourage groups to get together and think of how they can work together to Send-A-Hero. Your youth group, school club, or any other kind of group could take on this opportunity.
How do we get started?
We want to help you understand the issues so that you know just how much you are helping! Contact us to schedule a kick-off event where we will give a short presentation to your group on what it means to Send-a-Hero, give you your materials, and help you on your way!
Is there a fundraising goal?
Any amount of money helps, but we encourage you to set a minimum fundraising goal of $1000 for your group to work towards. We can give you some ideas to get you started!
Who will we be helping?
Ratanak partners with a certain number of communities each year. You can learn more about your community through the information we provide for you about who lives there, what they do, and what their life is like.
